  • 1970 - The film Ned Kelly, starring Mick Jagger, opens.
  • 1973 - 600,000 people attend the Summer Jam at Watkins Glen (NY) to see the Allman Brothers, the Band and the Grateful Dead.
  • 1979 - Joe Perry quits Aerosmith after arguing with his bandmates at the World Series of Rock in Cleveland. Also on the bill are Ted Nugent, Journey, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC and the Scorpions.
  • 1987 - The Beatles sued Nike over the use of the song Revolution in shoe commercials.
  • 1989 - The Anne Murray Centre opened in Nova Scotia.
  • 1991 - Over 100 people were arrested when 2,000 rioted at an M.C. Hammer show.
  • 1992 - Robin Macy left the Dixie Chicks, replaced by Laura Lynch.
  • 1993 - 10,000 Maniacs played their last show with Natalie Merchant as their lead singer.
  • 1995 - The father of Jimi Hendrix finally wins a long battle for his son's likeness and music.

  • 1999 - Ol' Dirty Bastard of Wu-Tang Clan is arrested after bouncing his check for a portion of his bail on another charge.
  • 2003 - The 20th MTV Video Music Awards features an opening salute to Madonna by Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera followed by Madonna taking the stage and trading open mouth kisses with both singers.
  • 2004 - Poco's George Grantham suffered a heart attack one song into the band's show in Springfield, Mass.
  • 2007 - Eric Clapton held the second Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago with Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Sheryl Crow, Steve Winwood, B.B. King, Alison Krauss + Union Station, John Mayer and Albert Lee.
  • 2008 - Amy Winehouse was taken to a hospital after having problems with drugs she was taking to get off hard narcotics.

  • 2008 - Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert performed their first full concert together.
  • 2011 - Meat Loaf passed out onstage during a Pittsburgh show from an asthma attack. He continued the show shortly thereafter.

  • 2017 - Josh Reynolds, the son of founding Kingston Trio member Nick Reynolds, sued another founding member, Bob Shane, over the use of the group's name.
