  • 1959 - EMI announced the end of production of 78's.
  • 1960 - Rio Bravo, the John Wayne film that also starred Ricky Nelson and Dean Martin, premeired in New York.
  • 1965 - The Rolling Stones were fined for urinating in a public place after a show in Essex, England.
  • 1967 - It was made public that Steve Winwood, Dave Mason, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood were forming Traffic.
  • 1967 - Pink Floyd signed with EMI.
  • 1973 - Pink Floyd performed the entire Dark Side of the Moon album in London.
  • 1976 - The film The Man Who Fell to Earth starring David Bowie premiered in London.
  • 1978 - Cal Jam II is held outside of Los Angeles with Aerosmith, Foreigner, Santana, Heart and others.
  • 1982 - Teddy Pendergrass was in a serious accident when his car went off the road and hit two trees. The singer was paralyzed in the accident.
  • 1989 - A California radio station had all of their Cat Stevens records run over by a stream roller after the singer came out in favor of the Ayatollah Khomeni.
  • 1992 - Donna Summer received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  • 1994 - Darryl Jones was announced as the replacement for Bill Wyman on bass in the Rolling Stones after Wyman said he would no longer tour.
  • 1994 - Courtney Love called the police fearing that her husband, Kurt Cobain was going to commit suicide. The officers confiscate four guns and 25 boxes of ammunition.
  • 1994 - A street in Kenner, LA was named after Lloyd Price.
  • 1996 - The Sex Pistols announced they were reforming.
  • 1997 - Taylor Hawkins becomes the new Foo Fighters drummer, replacing William Goldsmith.
  • 1997 - Yanni played at the Taj Mahal, a first for any westerner.
  • 1997 - Joni Mitchell announced that she had been reunited with a daughter she had put up for adoption many years prior.
  • 2000 - The U.S. Postal Service issued a commemorative stamp of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
  • 2000 - U2 were given the Freedom of the City Award in Dublin.
  • 2002 - Isaac Hayes, Brenda Lee, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Gene Pitney, the Ramones and the Talking Heads were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
