New in Streaming: Light Week Includes David Bowie, Jet Harris, Sonny Rollins and the Boston Hardcore Scene

The following is new music programming on Netflix and Amazon Prime that has premiered over the last week:

  • David Bowie: The Man Who Stole the World - This documentary tells the story of how Bowie became one of the most iconic creations in the history of pop music. From his music, the fashion and the theatrical stage presence which turned Bowie into the biggest craze since the Beatles.
  • Jet Harris: From There to Here - Jet Harris was an iconic figure in early British rock n roll. He popularized the electric bass guitar in the UK, and also gave the British group The Shadows their name. Jet left the band in 1962 with drummer Tony Meehan,the pair had a series of hits. His story is funny, poignant and at times tragic, it is told with unusual honesty and wit by Jet himself alongside a host of musicians and stars.
  • Life and Death From Above 1979 = After years of playing together in various bands, Jesse Keeler and Sebastien Grainger started a band out of boredom and necessity. They were propelled into the limelight based on the strength of their performances and their album. As success grew, their friendship was strained and they soon broke up. After 5 years of silence, the band reunites again for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
  • Sonny Rollins: Saxophone Colossus - Robert Mugge's Saxophone Colossus looks at tenor saxophone master Sonny Rollins, among the greatest artists in jazz history. Named after one of Rollins' best-known albums, the 1986 film documents an ensemble performance in upstate New York and the world premiere of his Concerto for Tenor Saxophone and Orchestra in Japan. Interviewed are Sonny and Lucille Rollins and three top jazz critics.
  • All Ages: The Boston Hardcore Film - A film that explores the early Boston Hardcore music scene from the years 1981 to 1984. Unlike earlier films that were centered on the members of the bands, this film delves into the social and communal aspects of that particular era.
  • David Holt's State of Music (series) - Grammy Award winning performer David Holt has spent his life learning and performing traditional American music. It has taken him from the most remote coves of southern Appalachia to the bright lights of TV studios and the Grand Old Opry stage. David introduces viewers to current masters of traditional music on location in the southern mountains.
  • Simply K-Pop (series) - Watch Kpop stars as they perform on-stage and interact with the audience throughout the show. No more, no less - Only the essentials on "Simply Kpop"!
