by VVN Music

Joe Keithley, singer and guitarist for the punk legends D.O.A., is running for office.

Keithley has announced he is running for mayor of the British Columbia town Burnby which is located just east of Vancouver. He is on the Burnby Civic Green Party ticket.

Joe formed D.O.A. in 1978 making the group one of the earliest in the hardcore punk genre. Known as Joey "Shithead" Keithley, he is the only member that has been with the group from their inception until today. They've released eighteen studio albums since 1980.

Outside of punk, Keithley has been an author and business owner and has raised three kids with his wife of thirty years.

Keithley said in the announcement of his candidacy, "It is time for a fresh start in Burnaby. ... As your Mayor, I will take a common sense approach and work for all of our citizens."

This is not the first time that Keithley has run for office. He ran in the British Columbia provincial elections on the Green Party line in 1996 and 2001 and for a seat on the Burnaby-Lougheed seat in 2017.
