New Musical to Be Based on the Songs of Huey Lewis & the News

Oh, what Mamma Mia! has wrought.

Broadway and theaters across the world are now filled with musicals based on the catalogs of numerous artists from ABBA to the Go-Go's and the newest belongs to Huey Lewis & the News.

Lewis announced the new show, The Heart of Rock and Roll, on Thursday (February 8) in a short piece with Jimmy Kimmel.

The musical will includes some of Lewis' best known songs set into an original story by Tyler Mitchell and a book by Jonathan Abrams.  Gordon Greenburg will direct.

Between 1982 and 1988, Huey Lewis and the News had twelve top ten hits in the U.S. making them one of the biggest groups of the decade. Three, "The Power of Love", "Stuck With You" and "Jacob's Ladder", went to number 1 while a number of others remain in heavy rotation on decades radio including "Do You Believe in Love", "I Want a New Drug" and "The Heart of Rock and Roll".
