Sales of Cranberries Albums Have Dramatic Increase After Death of Dolores O'Riordan

by VVN Music

The sales of albums by the Cranberries and solo albums by Dolores O'Riordan have had a dramatic increase after the announcement on Monday of O'Riordan's death.

So far, there are no details on the cause of death although there have been reports that the singer had been extremely depressed in the preceding weeks.

It's not unusual for sales of an artist's music to surge after they die, but major increases like being seen for O'Riordan are usually reserved for the biggest artists like Michael Jackson, Prince and, most recently, Tom Petty.  The increase for Dolores and her band, The Cranberries, is exceptionally large as their catalog's popularity has dropped off since the 90's with their latest albums rarely even entering the charts.

The extraordinary increase in sales has been seen across all venues that track album sales in real time or short term basis, including Amazon and iTunes.  As of 9 AM Tuesday (January 16) morning, nine of the top twenty albums by veteran artists at Amazon were by the band (eight) or a solo O'Riordan (one).  Their album Something Else is the number two best seller overall behind the soundtrack to The Greatest Showman.
