Rock Hall to Induct Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, the Moody Blues, the Cars and Nina Simone

by VVN Music

The fans got four-out-of-five right on their ballot as Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues and The Cars have been elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Only Nina Simone, who came in tenth on the fan ballot, stopped the perfect record, being elected over Judas Priest who was fifth on the fan's tally..

Two artists who were eligible for the first time, Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine also failed to get the votes needed for induction.

It's an especially satisfying win for the Moody Blues who had been eligible for 28 years before finally getting their first nomination this year. Word is that Hall leader Jann Wenner had actively been keeping them out.

The following members will be inducted for each band:
  • Bon Jovi
    • David Bryan
    • Jon Bon Jovi
    • Richie Sambora
    • Alec John Such
    • Tico Torres.
  • The Cars
    • Elliot Easton
    • Greg Hawkes
    • David Robinson
    • Ric Ocasek
    • Benjamin Orr
  • Dire Straits
    • Alan Clark
    • Guy Fletcher
    • John Illsley
    • David Knopfler
    • Mark Knopfler
    • Pick Withers
  • The Moody Blues
    • Graeme Edge
    • Justin Hayward
    • John Lodge
    • Mike Pinder
    • Ray Thomas
There doesn't seem to be much chance for controversy this year as far as the induction ceremony is concerned as has been the case in recent years. According to Rolling Stone, Bon Jovi would be happy to bring both Richie Sambora and Alec John Such back for a performance as would the Moody Blues with Mike Pinder.  The only question mark is Dire Straits with whom Mark Knopfler has not performed since 1992.

Selected for induction outside of the ballot, even though she was on it, is Sister Rosetta Tharpe who will go in as an Early Influence. Tharpe combined gospel music with a beat, making her one of the first great gospel recording artists and an early influence to both rock and R&B.

Artists not making the cut this year:
  • Kate Bush (1st Nomination, 14th Year Eligible)
  • Depeche Mode (2nd Nomination, 11th Year Eligible)
  • Eurythmics (1st Nomination, 11th Year Eligible)
  • J. Geils Band (4th Nomination, 22nd Year Eligible)
  • Judas Priest (1st Nomination, 18th Year Eligible)
  • LL Cool J (4th Nomination, 8th Year Eligible)

  • The Meters (4th Nomination, 23rd Year Eligible)

The induction ceremony will be April 14 at Public Hall in Cleveland.
