- 1967 - The Beatles opened their Apple Boutique in London.
- 1968 - Eric Burdon announced that the Animals will break up after their concert on December 22.
- 1973 - Clifford Davis, former manager of Fleetwood Mac, announces that he owns the name and puts together a second group to tour. Eventually he is forced to change his group's name.
- 1992 - Sony released their first minidisc in the U.S., Unplugged by Mariah Carey.
- 1996 - Johnny Cash and Benny Carter were among the recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors.
- 1997 - Shane MacGowan of the Pogues was arrested in Liverpool after throwing a microphone stand into the crowd and injuring a fan.
- 1999 - Barry White canceled the balance of a U.K. tour because of exhaustion.
