Vintage Video #1's: Lee Dorsey Sings "Ya Ya" on "Where the Action Is"

It was on this date 56 years ago (November 6, 1961) that Lee Dorsey hit number 1 on the R&B Singles chart with "Ya Ya".

Dorsey, a childhood friend of Fats Domino, released his first record, "Rock Pretty Baby", in 1959 on Cosimo Mattasa's Rex Records but it wouldn't be until two years later that he would have his first hit "Ya Ya", a song he had co-written with Clarence Lewis, Morgan Robinson and Morris Levy although later pressings of the single would only show Dorsey and Lewis' names.

The record went on to reach number 7 on the Hot 100 and number 1 on the R&B singles.  Dorsey would have four more R&B top ten hits in his career, one of which, "Working in the Coal Mine", would reach the pop top ten.
