Midnight Oil Guitarist Jim Moginie Injured in On-Stage Fall

by Paul Cashmere, Noise11 and VVN Music

Midnight Oil lead guitarist Jim Moginie is recovering after falling and injuring himself at the second Melbourne Midnight Oil show last night (November 8).

The Oils were towards the end of the set when the accident happened.

‘Short Memory’, ‘Power’ and the Passion’, ‘Sometimes’ and ‘Best of Both Worlds’ were struck from the setlist. Instead, Midnight Oil returned to play one more song acoustic, ‘One Country’.

In a statement Midnight Oil tweeted, “Thanks to all at the Myer Music Bowl tonight. Sorry for the short encore but Jim took a spill and hurt his leg at end of main set. Wishing him a quick recovery”.

They later posted an update:

Thanks from Jim for all the good wishes. He’s in good spirits but has a badly torn hamstring after slipping onstage last night. He will get further tests in hospital today to determine whether surgery is required.

Midnight Oil are in the final week of their year long ‘The Great Circle World’ tour with shows still scheduled for Sydney, Wollongong and one more Melbourne. It is currently unknown if Jim can return for the remaining shows or if he will be replaced.

Midnight Oil have performed over 100 songs so far on the world tour. Their show at Hanging Rock in Victoria last weekend was filmed for a potential live album and DVD release.
