Michael Ball & Alfie Boe Get Second Number 1 in Britain; Stereophonics at 2

by VVN Music

At this time last year, Michael Ball & Alfie Boe were about to start a nine week run in the British top four with their first album as a duo, Together.

That album went on to be the biggest selling artist album of 2016 in the U.K. and the pair may be aiming for a repeat with their new album Together Again. It opens at number 1 on this week's chart.

Both had previous success as solo artists with Ball previously hitting the top of the chart with his self titled debut in 1992 and Boe hitting the top ten four times with two albums peaking at number 6, Alfie (2011) and Storyteller (2012).

The Stereophonics premier at 2 with Scream Above the Sounds. The band have had nine top three albums in the last twenty years including six number 1's:
  • Performance and Cocktails (1999)
  • Just Enough Education to Perform (2001)
  • You Gotta Go There to Come Back (2003)
  • Language Sex Violence Other (2005)
  • Pull the Pin (2007)
  • Keep the Village Alive (2015)
George Michael drops 1 to 4 with the deluxe version of Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1 and Liam Gallagher goes 4 to 7 with As You Were. Reentering the chart at 8 is the Steps' Tears on the Dancefloor which originally charted in April.

Weezer opens at 68 with Pacific Daydream, their eleventh studio album and the eleventh straight to make the British charts. The debut position is quite a bit lower than their last three albums, especially 2016's Weezer (White Album) which went to 24.  Pacific Daydream is their second lowest charting after Raditude (2009 / #80 U.K.).

Finally, Whitesnake starts at 93 with deluxe 30th Anniversary Edition of their album 1987.

Behind Ball & Boe and the Sterophonics is Gregory Porter with Nat King Cole & Me, Michael and Beautiful Trauma by P!nk.
