Vintage Video #1's: The 1959 Promo Film For Jackie Wilson's "You Better Know It"

by VVN Music

58 years ago, on October 19, 1959, Jackie Wilson hit the top of the R&B Singles chart for the second time with "You Better Know It".

Wilson first hit the top spot a year earlier with "Lonely Teardrops", written by Berry and Gwendolyn Gordy and Roquel "Billy" Davis but, for "You Better Know It", Wilson himself took the songwriting reigns with co-writer Norm Henry who was a staff writer for Brunswick Records.

"You Better Know It" didn't do anywhere near as well on the Hot 100. Where "Lonely Teardrops" went to number 7, the latter song peaked at 37.

The song was used in the 1959 film Go, Johnny, Go and a promo film was made by Brunswick:
