by VVN Music

CBS News is reporting that the LAPD has retracted their original statement saying that Tom Petty had died in Los Angeles after suffering cardiac arrest.

They tweated their retraction, saying:

The LAPD has no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty. Initial information was inadvertantly provided to some media sources

However, the LAPD has no investigative role in this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience in this reporting.

They also said that "initial information was inadvertently provided to some media sources" and apologized for "any inconvenience in this reporting."

Fire officials are now saying that they responded to an emergency call for a man with cardiac difficulties on Petty's block but couldn't confirm it was actually the rocker.

This statement despite the fact that TMZ has published the 911 call with Petty's wife, Dana York, saying that her husband was not breathing.

The site continues to state that Petty is "not expected to survive the day."
