- 1937 - Roy Rogers left the Sons of the Pioneers.
- 1962 - Don Everly of the Everly Brothers collapsed rehearsing for a U.K. tour and returned to the U.S. to recuperate. Phil continued with the tour solo.
- 1967 - Pat Boone performed the National Anthem at the first game of the new American Basketball Association. He was the owner of the Oakland Oaks.
- 1970 - The ashes of Janis Joplin were spread on Stinson Beach in California.
- 1975 - Neil Young had surgery for a growth on his vocal chords.
- 1975 - In one of the most famous moments in CMA Awards history, Charlie Rich sets fire to the envelope that names John Denver as Entertainer of the Year.
- 1980 - Johnny Cash and Connie B. Gay were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
- 1986 - Wesley Rose and Benjamin F. “Whitey” Ford (Duke of Paducah) were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
