Monkees' "Head" Soundtrack to Get Vinyl Release With Rarities

by VVN Music

Depending on who you talk to, the Monkees' soundtrack to their film Head is either pure genius or a low point in their career.

The film received some very mixed reviews when it was released in 1968 and signaled a drop in the band's popularity. They would not reach top 20 again on the Singles and Albums charts until this year's Good Times! Yet, time has been kind to the movie and its music with critics now giving it a 75% "Fresh" rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

On March 3, Friday Music will release a new version of the soundtrack on vinyl, Head Alternate. Mastered from the Colgems tapes by Joe Reagoso, the new release includes such rarities as Can You Dig It with Peter Tork's vocal, Daddy's Song remixed with the long sought after Davy Jones' slow verse, and the rare stereo mix of Circle Sky.

This vinyl release will be pressed in translucent gold vinyl which will be housed in a gold foil sleeve with a rare full color picture of the band on the back.

At this point, there is no firm track list available.
