Billboard Names the Odds For the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

by VVN Music

Since this morning, we've already moved from "__________ [fill in one or more: Joan Baez, Chic, Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, Tupac Shakur, Joe Tex] shouldn't be nominated. They aren't ROCK!" arguments to first guesses at who will actually be inducted next spring.

Billboard was one of the first to weigh in, posting their odds for each of the nineteen nominees.  If their odds were to hold, the following would get in:
  • Pearl Jam (even odds)
  • Tupac Shakur (even odds)
  • Electric Light Orchestra (2 to 1)
  • Janet Jackson (2 to 1)
  • Yes (3 to 1)
Their odds say MC5 and The Cars will just miss the cut with odds of 4 to 1 while don't even think that Bad Brains or Depeche Mode have a chance with odds of 20 to 1 and 18 to 1 respectively (see their full list here).

The New York Daily News has also weighed in already, saying that they would pick:
  • Pearl Jam
  • Tupac Shakur
  • Yes
  • Janet Jackson
  • Depeche Mode
  • Kraftwerk
Evidently the people at the news either haven't seen Billboard's odds or are trying to make some long shot money with the Depeche Mode pick.

Meanwhile, San Francisco's Mercury News is placing their money on:
  • Pearl Jam
  • Tupac Shakur
  • Journey
  • Joan Baez
  • Electric Light Orchestra
So, with the first three sources weighing in, it looks like first time eligible Pearl Jam and Tupac Shakur are real things with Yes and ELO being pretty good bets.

Well, at least until someone else publishes their opinion.
