Rosanne Cash, Bobby Bare, Mavis Staples, Cake on Initial Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Lineup

by VVN Music

San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival once again lives up to its name with an initial lineup covering country, soul, rock and just a little bluegrass.

Set for September 30, October 1 and 2 at Golden Gate Park, this is the 16th edition of the festival that was begun in 2001 by the late venture capitalist Warren Hellman. Hellman wanted a free festival that would highlight bluegrass music, especially that of Hazel Dickens who played every year until her death.

The festival's focus branched out right from the first year when Emmylou Harris brought her band Spyboy with her instead of the more country/bluegrass oriented Nash Ramblers. Hellman liked what he heard and the genres included in future shows, and the new word "Hardly", were added.

The shows are still free and the lineup is still growing to include a well rounded mix of music with the first batch of performers for 2016 including:
  • Rosanne Cash
  • Mavis Staples
  • Cake
  • Mary Chapin Carpenter
  • The Infamous Stringdusters
  • Bobby Bare
  • Elephant Revival
  • Buddy Miller & Marc Ribot
  • The Mother Hips
  • The California Honeydrops
Look for more announcements soon as the festival slowly unveils its lineup.
