Midnight Oil to Tour in 2017

Peter Garrett, Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie, Martin Rotsey and Bones Hillman have announced that Midnight Oil will be touring next year.
We wanted you to be the first to know that the five of us are planning to do some gigs in Australia and overseas during 2017. It will probably be at least the end of this year before we know exactly where or when - but if you want to be first to hear about any dates, head over to and sign up to the mailing list. You can grab your free download of ‘Forgotten Years’ live from Canberra while you’re there and catch up on some other big news too. Hope to see you soon … from Bones, Jim, Martin, Peter and Rob.
Garrett, Hirst and Moginie were original members of the band when they formed in 1976 and Rotsey joined the next year. Hillman replaced original bassist Peter Gifford in 1987.

The band were active until 2002 when Garrett quit to pursue a political career. They reformed in 2005 for WaveAid, in 2006 to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and three shows in 2009.

Meanwhile, the band updated the activities of the band members on their official page:

  • Garrett is getting ready to release his first solo album.
  • Hirst is continuing to play with the blues band The Backsliders and released an album with Sean Sennett in 2015.
  • Moginie has written for film, produced and written for his Electric Guitar Orchestra.
  • Rotsey, along with Moginie and Hirst, formed the surf band The Break and plays on Garrett's album. He is now a resident of Nashville.
