Dolly Parton to Mount Biggest Tour in 25 Years, Plans New Album

Dolly Parton is about to go out on what she is calling her "first major U.S. and Canadian tour in more than 25 years."

According to Parton's people, she has played select cities in the U.S. in the past but not an all encompassing trek that takes her coast to coast. Dates have not been announced yet, but sources are saying she has sixty cities on the itinerary.

Dolly said "We’re so excited to get out there and see the fans again. I’m really looking forward to singing songs the fans have not heard in a while, as well as the hits, while debuting a few new ones off Pure & Simple."

"Pure & Simple" would be Parton's upcoming album Pure & Simple With Dolly's Biggest Hits which will combine new material with Dolly's biggest hits over a two-CD set.

Pure & Simple is also the name of the upcoming tour which will cut down on the production. Parton told Rolling Stone "We don't have a lot of electric instruments. We don't have a lot of video; we don't have any, really. ... I'm doing a lot of songs really scaled-down. . . but, of course, I do a lot of talkin'. What else would I do, right?"

The last couple of years have been huge for Parton's career. While she no longer is a regular on the Country Singles chart, she had a major spot on the Glastonbury stage two summer's ago which led to her Blue Smoke / Greatest Hits collection, exclusive to the U.K., to top the British charts and have an extended stay in the U.K. top twenty. She has since followed with her first NBC film based on her song Coat of Many Colors which garnered big ratings and will be released on DVD on May 3.
