Vintage Video: Gilbert O'Sullivan Performs "Out of the Question"

British singer Gilbert O'Sullivan turns 69 today.

Born on December 1, 1946 in Waterford, Ireland as Raymond Edward O'Sullivan, his first semi-professional music experience was in a band called Rick's Blues with future Supertramp member Rick Davies.

After recording two unsuccessful singles for Columbia and one for Major Minor, he signed with Gordon Mills, who also managed Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck, who signed him to his MAM Records. He had his first U.K. hit, Nothing Rhymed in 1970 but it was in 1972 that Gilbert achieved international success with the song Alone Again (Naturally). In the U.S., he followed with Clair (1972 / #2), Get Down (1973 / #7) and Out of the Question (1973 / #17).

This performance of the song is from the December 1972 BBC special The Music of Gilbert O'Sullivan.
