Vintage Video: Freddy Cannon Performs a Medley of His Hits

Today is Freddy Cannon's 76th birthday.

Born December 4, 1936 in Revere, Massachusetts, Cannon got his start in music in various groups around the Boston area. In 1958, he began working with local DJ Jack McDermott who helped him, along with Bob Crewe and Frank Slay, to turn a song he had written with his mother, Rock and Roll Baby, into the national hit Tallahassee Lassie.

Tallahassee went to number 6 in 1959 and was followed by four more top twenty hits, Way Down Yonder in New Orleans (1959 / #3), Palisades Park (1962 / #3), Abigail Beecher (1964 / #16) and Action (1965 / #13).

Here he is in a vintage video clip performing a medley of some of his songs.
