Fourteen New Artists Elected to Amarica's Pop Music Hall of Fame

In the small town of Canonsburg, PA, just outside of Pittsburgh, are the offices of America's Pop Music Hall of Fame.

Canonsburg is the birthplace of Perry Como and Bobby Vinton (along with rapper Wiz Khalifa) and a statue of Como stands in front of the city's municipal building. With two of pop music's biggest hitmakers calling the city home, it seemed a natural to locate a national museum saluting the icons of popular music, those that might fall outside the realm of standard rock, soul or country.

Not that there isn't some crossover, but the Hall concentrates on those artists who made melodic, adult oriented music such as Como, Paul Anka, Bobby Darin, Tom Jones, Johnny Mathis and Frank Sinatra who have all already been elected to the Hall of Fame along with others who have been recognized by other organizations, such as Paul McCartney, the Righteous Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel and Elton John who all have appealed to an older audience.

On Tuesday, America's Pop Music Hall of Fame announced their ten new inductees to be placed in the hall in 2016.
  • The Association
  • Dion
  • The Grass Roots
  • The Lettermen
  • Barry Manilow
  • Paul Revere and the Raiders
  • Neil Sedaka
  • Barbra Streisand
  • The Temptations
  • Three Dog Night
In addition, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, the Ink Spots and the Mills Brothers were elected in the Legends category, a new category that was inaugurated last year with the induction of Les Paul and Mary Ford.

The Hall of Fame is continuing their path to a physical location to salute the elected artists. A feasibility study to determine the size and location of a permanent Pop Music Hall of Fame facility is underway. Current plans are for a large, multi-use performance venue as well as both permanent and rotating exhibits.
