Fifth Annual PBS Arts Fall Festival to Feature Gloria Estefan and the Works of Elton John, Michael Jackson & Danny Elfman

PBS has announced the schedule for their fifth annual Arts Fall Festival featuring weekly performances each Friday night from the worlds of popular music and Broadway.

Gloria Estefan will host each of the eight shows in the series which will include two special presentations aimed at the Latino audience.

Opening the festival on October 9 is Unity: The Latin Tribute to Michael Jackson featuring the singer's greatest hits as interpreted by top Latin artists. Hosted by Sheila E., the show features Jon Secada, Tito Nieves, Michael Stuart, Obie Bermúdez, Jennifer Peña, Kevin Ceballo, Judith Hill, Jean Rodriguez, and more.

Later in the series, on November 6, Great Performances presents Chita Rivera: A Lot of Livin' to Do featuring archive footage from some of Rivera's shows including West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie and Chicago along with new interviews with Dick Van Dyke, Ben Vereen, Carol Lawrence and others.

  • October 9 - Unity: The Latin Tribute to Michael Jackson
  • October 16 - Live From Lincoln Center: Show Boat of Kern and Hammerstein in concert with the New York Philharmonic - Long considered the first important Broadway musical that tackled dramatic subjects, the concert presentation stars Vanessa Williams, Julian Ovenden, Norm Lewis, Jane Alexander, Fred Willard and Lauren Worsham.
  • October 23 - Great Performances: Billy Elliot: The Musical - The Elton John written show is set in the in Northeast England against a background of the miners' strike of 1984 and tells the inspiring story of the journey of a young man from the boxing ring to the bar ballet, transforming his family and the community.
  • October 30 - Live From Lincoln Center: The Music of Danny Elfman's Tim Burton Films - The former Oingo Boingo member has become one of Hollywood's foremost composers, collaborating frequently with director Tim Burton on such films as Batman, Beatlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • November 6 - Chita Rivera: A Lot of Livin' to Do
  • November 13 - Live From Lincoln Center: Act One - The 2014 play written by James Lapine and based on the autobiography of Moss Hart who wrote You Can't Take It With You, The Man Who Came to Dinner and Lady in the Dark among other works. 
  • November 20 - First You Dream: The Music of Kander & Ebb - A salute to the composers of the musicals Cabaret, Chicago, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Act, Curtains and The Scottsboro Boys with Kate Baldwin, Heidi Blickenstaff, James Clow, Norm Lewis, Julia Murney and Matthew Scott.
  • November 27 - Andrea Bocelli: Cinema - Acclaimed opera singer Andrea Bocelli and David Foster explore the classic music of the silver screen.
