Veteran Artists Hold Nine of Top Twenty Albums in Britain; Led Zeppelin Score Three

It's a banner week for veteran artists on the British Albums chart as they take five of the top ten spots and nine of the top twenty.

The highest charting goes to former Jam and Style Council member Paul Weller with his second career retrospective, More Modern Classics. The album's number 6 start betters by 1 the debut of 1998's Modern Classics: The Greatest Hits.

The Led Zeppelin deluxe edition program starts strong with two of the first three hitting the top ten for the week. Their debut album, Led Zeppelin comes in at number 7 while Led Zeppelin III is at 10 and Led Zeppelin II starts at 12. In their original runs, the debut peaked at number 6 while II and III made it to number 1.

The three Zeppelin albums are also 1-2-3 on the Rock and Metal Albums and Official Record Stores Albums charts.

At number 8 is the premier of the album Hank by former Shadows lead guitarist Hank Marvin. It's the second best showing of his fifteen studio and live albums, only beat by 2007's Guitar Man which hit number 6. As a member of the Shadows, he had three number 1 albums and eleven that hit the top ten, and that doesn't count the albums where the Shadows backed up Cliff Richard.

James debuts at 11 with their twelfth studio album, La Petite Mort. It's their best since 2008's Hey Ma went to number 10. The album previous, 2001's Pleased to Meet You, also peaked at 11.

Dame Vera Lynn debuts at 13 with National Treasure: Ultimate Collection. The singer, now 97, created a sensation in 2009 when she became the oldest living person to ever have a number 1 album in the U.K. with another compilation, We'll Meet Again: The Very Best of Vera Lynn.

Finally, at 91 is the premier of The Moral of the Elephant by British folk legend Martin Carthy and his daughter Eliza Carthy.

The British Albums chart is topped for a second week by Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour followed by Coldplay's Ghost Stories, the debut of Clean Bandit's New Eyes, Paolo Nutini's Caustic Love and Paloma Faith's A Perfect Contradiction.

On the Singles chart it's Sing by Ed Sheeran, Stay With Me by Sam Smith, I Wanna Feel by Secondcity, Waves by Mr Probz and All of Me by John Legend.
