The Who to Release "Sensation: The Story of Tommy" on DVD and Blu-Ray

The Who and Eagle Rock Entertainment have announced that they will release the documentary Sensation: The Story of Tommy on March 11 (DVD and Blu-Ray).

The film tells the story of the struggles that the band went through finding their next big break after the album The Who Sell Out. Even though Magic Bus had moderate sales, the singles released before and after made no splash on the scene. Add the fact that Pete Townshend had been through some drug problems and was questioning whether he enjoyed the celebrity life and you have a band that was on the verge of breaking up.

The members committed to the new project written by Townshend and continued touring to finance the studio time to make what some consider the first rock opera, Tommy. Their confidence was rewarded when the album went on to sell over twenty million albums worldwide and took its place as one of the crowning achievements of the rock era.

Sensation: The Story of Tommy has been made with the full cooperation of the band and was directed by Martin Smith. Included are interviews with Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, archive interviews with the late John Entwistle, and contributions from engineer Bob Pridden, artwork creator Mike McInnerney plus others involved in the creation of the album and journalists who assess the album s historic and cultural impact.
