Roy Harper Charged With Child Sex Offenses, Denies Charges

British folk legend Roy Harper is the latest celebrity to be charged with child sex offenses.

Harper, 72, will be charged in Hereford Magistrates' Court on Monday with nine counts in relation to an offense dating back to between 1975 and 1977 and involving a girl who was 12 at the time of the first incident. Specifically, he is charged with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 and four counts of gross indecency with a girl under 14.

He was originally interviewed in relation to the alleged crime back in February and had a summons issued on October 16.

At around 5 PM EST on Friday, a statement was posted on Harper's Facebook page stating "Roy vigorously denies the allegations that have been made against him and looks forward to clearing his name."

Harper released his first album, Sophisticated Begger, in 1966 and has released 23 studio albums and twelve live albums. His latest, Man and Myth, came out on September 23.

This is clearly a bogus, fabricated and trumped up charge (perhaps for purposes of extortion or blackmail) by some dysfunctional person, perhaps an old fan or someone who mat have been sexually turned down. Why wait for FORTY YEARS to make this kind of accusation? There is also the possibility that the UK authorities decided to have a go at this icon of the anti-establishment, and trash what is left of his career... after all, to falsely accuse someone of underage sex is the most effective way of ruining someone's life.
