Passings: Producer, DJ and Madonna "Founder" Mark Kamins

Producer and DJ Mark Kamins has died from a “massive coronary” in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Steve Lewis at BlackBook.com reports that Kamins had been having heart problems for a few months and had seen a cardiologist just three days before his death.

Kamins was the Assistant Director of Academic Review for Technological Studies at the Fermatta Music Academy in Guadalajara. He was a teacher at the school.

Back in 1982 he was the one who bought Madonna to the attention of Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, who then signed her to his label.  Kamins produced Madonna’s first single Everybody. He has also worked with David Byrne, Beastie Boys and UB40.

Madonna issued a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, saying "I'm very sorry to hear about Marks death. I haven't seen him for years but if it weren't for him, I might not have had a singing career. He was the first DJ to play my demos before I had a record deal. He believed in me before anyone else did. I owe him a lot. May he Rest in Peace."
