Short Takes: Neil Diamond, Gene Simmons, Madonna, Tesla, Bruce Cockburn, Anthrax

Neil Diamond has a tour in 2012 for his new Greatest Hits album but, once that's over in September, he'll be ready to enter the studio for his next release. He told Billboard "the songs are just coming like they always come... I've got six or seven that I really love, so I'm on my way" and added that they were "very, very basic. There's no bells and whistles. It's very straightforward, and I like that...They're good songs, and I think people will be able to take them to their hearts immediately -- or reject them, immediately. There won't be any equivocation at all with these."

Gene Simmons of Kiss offered an opinion on the Madonna Super Bowl Halftime show to TMZ's cameras on Tuesday. He doesn't think it would be inappropriate due to morals, but because they should get "a real band."

"I love all karaoke singers, I love all the girl singers who get up and sing with tapes ... shame on you! ... By the way, Madonna's terrific ... I hate the tapes."

The Cure may not have made it to the Rock Hall on Wednesday, but word did get out on a few projects for 2012. The band is working on a 20th anniversary deluxe version of their album Wish along with a special vinyl version of their hit Friday I'm in Love for the next Record Store Day.

Tesla received the key to the city of Sacramento, CA on Wednesday. The hometown boys were honored at the city's Sacramento Rock and Radio Museum.

Bruce Cockburn won two awards at the recent Canadian Folk Music Awards, taking home Contemporary Album of the Year and Solo Artist of the Year for his album Small Source of Comfort.

Anthrax have announced the first few dates for the second leg of their tour with Testament.
