Neil Young, Rush and Daniel Lanois Take Early Juno Awards

Like the Grammys, Canada's Juno Awards have a lot of categories (although their 40 categories is dwarfed by the Grammys' 100+) so many of them are given out before the televised ceremony on Sunday night. Saturday night's 2011 Juno Gala Dinner and Awards saw thirty-two of the forty presented with the final eight being handed out during the television show.

Among Saturday night's highlights were Alternative Album of the Year going to Arcade Fire for The Suburbs which also won the Grammy for Album of the Year, International Album to Katy Perry's Teenage Dream, Rock Album to Vancouver by Mathew Good and Country Album to A Place Called Love by Johnny Reid.

Among veteran artists, Neil Young, who was already the recipient of the Alan Waters Humanitarian Award, also took Adult Alternative Album of the Year for Le Noise while Daniel Lenois took Producer of the Year for the Young album and Black Dub's I Believe in You. Rush won Music DVD of the Year for their documentary Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage. Jim Byrnes took Blues Album of the Year for Everywhere West.

Young joked while accepting his award "I'm an adult...and there's no alternative. All the handles and everything, that's other people's things. It's all music to me."

The Juno's press release with all of the winners is after the cut.
