Paul McCartney Salutes His Late Wife Linda

by VVN Music

Their love story was one for the ages.

Linda Eastman was already a successful celebrity photographer when she met Paul McCartney in May 1967 at London's Bag O'Nails Club. A year later, they got together again while Paul and John Lennon were in New York to inaugurate Apple Records.

Paul said he liked her as a woman and as an person with an independent spirit and lover of nature.  Eastman and her daughter from her first marriage, Heather, eventually moved to London to live with McCartney who would dote over the young girl as if he were her real father.

When the Beatles broke up, it was Linda who drew Paul out of his shell and got him writing and recording again. They married on March 12, 1969 and, over the course of their 29-year-marriage, had three more children.

Together, they formed the band Wings and, although many fans felt that Linda did not live up to the artistic level of the rest of the group, she remained a member throughout their history.

Then, in 1995, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought the disease but it eventually spread to her liver and she died on April 17, 1998.

On Tuesday (April 17), the twentieth anniversary of her death, McCartney posted a picture of Linda on his Instagram account with the simple words "Remembering Linda with love today. Beautiful memories."
