  • 1955 - The Dave Brubeck Quartet made their first appearance at Carnegie Hall.
  • 1958 - Billie Holiday was sentenced to one year's probation for narcotics possession.
  • 1969 - George and Patti Harrison were arrested after police found 120 joints at their house.
  • 1971 - A London judge rules in favor of Paul McCartney in his move to dissolve the Beatles.
  • 1974 - John Lennon and Harry Nilsson were evicted from the Troubadour in L.A. after yelling insults at Tommy Smothers. Lennon also allegedly hit a photographer in the eye.
  • 1977 - The Sex Pistols get into a fight with personnel from the BBC's Old Gray Whistle Test, leading to them being dropped by their label, A&M Records.
  • 1981 - Bow Wow Wow cancelled the first date of their U.K. tour when the London Greater Council said that their lead singer, Annabella Lewin (15), would be charged with truancy.
  • 1999 - A private funeral was held for Dusty Springfield.
  • 2000 - Michele Williams and Farrah Franklin made their live debuts in Destiny's Child.
  • 2003 - Elvis Costello filled in on David Letterman's show after the host underwent heart surgery.
  • 2003 - The Chinese government told the Rolling Stones that they couldn't play Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Woman, Beast of Burdon or Let's Spend the Night Together when they tour the country.
  • 2004 - Travis Barker of Blink-182 broke his foot forcing the cancellation of the group's Australian tour.
  • 2006 - Ring of Fire, a jukebox musical based on the music of Johnny Cash, opened on Broadway. 
  • 2009 - Tickets went on sale for Michael Jackson's comeback shows at London's O2 Arena.
  • 2010 - Pink Floyd won a court case against EMI, preventing the company from selling single tracks from their albums via digital download.
  • 2010 - Eight people were hurt and 130 arrested for trying to gatecrash a Metallica show in Columbia.
  • 2013 - Bob Dylan was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the first rock musician to receive the honor. 
  • 2016 - Iron Maiden's airplane was damaged coliding with a tow truck on a Santiago, Chile airfield.
