  • 1976 - Rock promoter Bill Sargent offered the Beatles $30 million to play together. They turned it down.
  • 1977 - Aretha Franklin performed God Bless America at Jimmy Carter's inaugural eve gala. Charlie Daniels and Marshall Tucker would play the inauguration.
  • 1978 - Johnny Rotten was fired from the Sex Pistols for not being "weird enough anymore."
  • 1981 - Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Donny & Marie Osmond sang at Ronald Reagan's inaugural ball.
  • 1988 - Doc McGheep, the manager for both Bon Jovi and Motley Crue, plead guilty to the importation of over 40,000 pounds of marijuana into the U.S.

  • 1993 - The U.S. Supreme Court upholds a $2.5 million award to Tom Waits against Frito-Lay for their use of a sound-alike voice in the company's advertising.
  • 1998 - Joey Ramone of the Ramones entered a New York hospital suffering from a blood related illness.
  • 1998 - Pat Boone was presented with the first Michael the Archangel Award from the National Association of Police in recognition of his support of the families of officers killed in the line of duty.
  • 1999 - Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural of Buckwheat Zydeco had surgery to remove lesions on his vocal chords.
  • 2017 - Alanis Morissette's former business manager admitted to stealing $7 million from the singer and other entertainers.
