While they didn't fare very well in the U.K., U2 are about to score their eighth number 1 album in the U.S. with Songs of Experience.

The band debuted at number 5 on Friday in the U.K., breaking a string of top two albums that dated back to 1983's War but, here in America, the album sold big numbers, moving 170,000 in pure sales and 176,500 with streaming included to put them at the top of the charts.  Figures are projections by Hits Daily Double.

Their eight number 1 albums:
  • The Joshua Tree (1987)
  • Rattle and Hum (1988)
  • Achtung Baby (1991)
  • Zooropa (1993)
  • Pop (1997)
  • How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (2004)
  • No Line on the Horizon (2009)
  • Songs of Experience (2017)
Garth Brooks' Anthology Part 1 continues to sell well, coming in at six in sales with 40,800 in sales. With nothing added in streaming, the album drops to number 8 on the all media chart.

The Rolling Stones have the second highest debuting album for the week by a veteran artist with On Air. The album sold 13,300 copies in its first week, putting it at number 18. Streaming added just under a thousand extra units with the album coming in at 42 on the Sales Plus Streaming chart.
