Set List: Paul McCartney Plays First Australian Show in 24 Years

by Paul Cashmere, Noise11

Paul McCartney has performed his first show in Australia since 1993 in Perth.

McCartney’s last Australian show was at Parramatta Stadium in Sydney on March 23, 1993 when he was on this ‘The New World Tour’.

The 2017 ‘One On One’ tour is rich on Beatles songs with 26 Beatles classics making up the 40 strong song setlist in Perth on Saturday night.

During the show Sir Paul paid tribute to his late mates George Harrison and John Lennon performing George’s ‘Something’ and his tribute to John ‘Here Today’ as well as a nod to ‘Give Peace A Chance’ during ‘A Day In The Life’. Ringo Starr, the only other surviving Beatles, gets some recognition with Paul performing ‘I Wanna be Your Man’, the song he wrote but Ringo sang on ‘With The Beatles’.

The McCartney setlist covers Sir Paul’s entire recording era dating back pre-Beatles to 1958 with one of the first songs Lennon, McCartney and Harrison ever recorded as The Quarrymen. Paul brings the setlist right up to date with ‘Four Five Seconds’, a song he was part of with Kanye West and Rihanna (but even he says he can’t hear himself on the hit version.

McCartney songs are songs most people know by heart. These songs defy demographics and cross generations. For the first time in 24 years Australian’s get to hear the songs by the man who wrote the songs singing and performing the songs. This is a genuine music show. There is no “art” to this. He won’t be at the back of the stage, wearing a wig, covering his face with pre-recorded music and a row of dancers. With McCartney you will “sia” real talent.

When you witness a McCartney show you will be witnessing history.
