Set List: Tower of Song: A Memorial Tribute to Leonard Cohen

by VVN Music

A year ago today, we lost one of the great poets of music, Leonard Cohen and, last night, a major memorial show was held at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The concert was actually Cohen's idea before his death. His son, Adam Cohen, said "My father left me with a list of instructions before he passed: ‘Put me in a pine box next to my mother and father. Have a small memorial for close friends and family in Los Angeles…and if you want a public event do it in Montreal’.  I see this concert as a fulfillment of my duties to my father that we gather in Montreal to ring the bells that still can ring."

The amazing lineup included veterans Sting, who opened the show, Elvis Costello, k.d. lang, Bettye Lavette, Courtney Love and Ron Sexsmith along with a more modern Lana Del Rey, Damien Rice, Feist, the Lumineers and many more.  Also appearing were Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie and actor Seth Rogen along with Cohen's backing duo from his final tours, the Webb Sisters.

Obviously, the Cohen catalog is too big to do justice in one short evening, but many of his best known songs were covered during the evening.
