Shania Twain Sells 2.5 Times The Second Place Album by Tom Petty

by VVN Music

Shania Twain is back with big first week sales.

While things in the music business have changed drastically in the fifteen years since her last album and it is unimaginable that she will be able to get her fourth straight Diamond Album (10 million sales), she still managed an impressive 130,500 units in sales in her first week according to Hits Daily Double. Throw in streaming and that moves up to 134,400.

Based on pure sales, that beats number 2 Greatest Hits by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers by a little over 2-1/2 times. Petty scored 51,000 in pure sales.

Things are a bit tighter when you add in streaming with Petty jumping to an incredible 74,000 units. That would indicate over 34 million streams of tracks from the album in the days since he died, a nearly unheard of number for a veteran artist.

Petty has three other albums in the Hits top fifty based on pure sales with Wildflowers at 19 with 6,700 units, Anthology: Through the Years at 23 with 6,050 and Full Moon Fever at 37 with 4,200.  When streams are added in, only Wildflowers stays in the top fifty.

Among other veteran artists, Primus sold an estimated 14,200 of their new album The Desaturating Seven putting it at 7 in sales and 29 when streaming is added.

Michael Jackson's Scream collection moved 11,900 copies putting it at 8 in sales but lack of noticeable streaming moved it down to 28.

Pearl Jam's Let's Play Two was the tenth biggest selling of the week at 11,500 but only 34th with streaming while David Gilmour's Live at Pompeii moved 10,200 copies for 13 in pure sales very few streams dropped it to 49 on the overall chart.

Final positions will be announced on Tuesday.
