Real McCoy Tops Billboard List of the All-Time Top Pop Songs

by VVN Music

Billboard has published their top 100 pop hits of all time which is led by the German eurodance act Real McCoy.

This list is based on the Billboard Pop Songs chart, which only started on October 3, 1992, leaving out thousands of pop songs from earlier years.  Based on radio airplay on pop radio stations, the chart started at a time when the definition of "pop" music was changing.  Before then, pop was the realm of crooners and more easy listening artists as compared to those that fell into the rock spectrum.  Now, much of dance and light and even moderate rock is considered pop.

The number 1 spot on the chart that spans the last twenty five years is the band Real McCoy with the song "Another Night". While the song only went to number 3 on the Hot 100 in 1993, it took the top of the Pop Songs for six weeks and was in the top ten for 28 weeks.

"Night" is followed by Santana and Rob Thomas' smash "Smooth", "Hanging By a Moment" by Lifehouse, "Apologize" by Timbaland Featuring OneRepublic and "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback.

The top twenty (veteran artists in bold):
  1. Another Night - Real McCoy
