Jay-Z Gets 14th Number 1 Album; Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" Joins 10+ Weeks at #1 Club

by VVN Music

Jay-Z's album 4:44 finally came to the general market last week making it eligible for the Billboard charts.

When all was said and done, 4:44 became his fourteenth straight studio album to make it to number 1. That moves him within five of the Beatles for the artist with the most number 1 Albums:
  • 01. Beatles (19)
  • 02. Jay-Z (14)
  • 03. Barbra Streisand (13)
  • 03. Bruce Springsteen (13)
  • 05. Elvis Presley (10)
4:44 is also at the top of the Album Sales, Digital Album Sales, R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Rap Albums charts. It is also the only new album by a veteran artist to chart this week in the U.S.

On the Singles side, Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee Featuring Justin Bieber joins the rare group of records that have spent ten or more weeks at number 1. Since 1955, only 38 recordings have reached the ten week mark with only five of those being from before 1991 when the calculations for the Hot 100 were drastically changed due to digital tracking.
