Fairport Convention's First Ten Years to Be Chronicled in New 7-CD Set

by VVN Music

Fairport Convention are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a brand new 7-CD set, Come All Ye: The First Ten Years. The box will be out July 28 via A&M/UMe.

Formed in 1967, the band released their self-titled debut in June of 1968 and, by May of 1978, had released fifteen albums:
  • Fairport Convention (1968)
  • What We Did On Our Holiday (1969)
  • Unhalbricking (1969)
  • Liege & Lief (1969)
  • Full House (1970)
  • Angel Delight (1971)
  • "Babbacombe" Lee (1971)
  • Rosie (1973)
  • Nine (1973)
  • Fairport Convention Live / A Moveable Feast (1974)
  • Rising of the Moon (1975)
  • Gottie O'Geer (1976)
  • Live at the L.A. Troubadour (1977)
  • The Bonny Bunch of Roses (1977)
  • Tipplers Tales (1978)
Tipplers was their last album before they broke up, not recording another album until 1985's Glady's Leap

Come All Ye covers all of those albums but only accounts for a fraction of the music in the set. Of the 121 tracks, more than fifty are unreleased including live performances, outtakes, radio appearances, demos, b-sides and their rare contribution to the BBC documentary, "The Man They Couldn't Hang" (1971). The last two discs are a pair of unreleased concerts from London's Fairfield Halls in 1973 and the band's American debut at The Troubadour in Los Angeles in 1974.

Liner notes are by Patrick Humphries, author of many highly-regarded books including, Nick Drake – The Biography (Bloomsbury 1998), Richard Thompson – The Biography (Music Sales Ltd 1997) and The Many Lives of Tom Waites (Omnibus Press 1989).

Also being released on July 28 is a new vinyl edition of the band's classic album Liege & Lief
