by VVN Music

Dave Rosser, who has played guitar with the Afghan Whigs since 2014, died on Tuesday (June 27) in New Orleans after battling colon cancer. He was 50.

The band announced on Facebook:

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our friend, brother and inspiration.

Dave Rosser passed away peacefully last evening surrounded by love. Thank you to all who kept him in their hearts. He is forever in ours.

They have since added:

We are truly awed and comforted by the outpouring of feelings for our dear David. Thank you all for your kind words and support during this difficult time. Information regarding memorial services will be forthcoming soon. Much love- The Afghan Whigs

Rosser became a member of the Afghan Whigs in 2014 after original guitarist Rick McCollum left the band. He played on their albums Do the Beast (2014) and In Spades (2017), recording the latter after he was diagnosed with inoperable cancer.

Along with the Afghan Whigs, Rosser played with Tim Heidecker, Joseph Arthur, Ani DiFranco, Whig's member Greg Dulli's side projects The Gutter Twins and the Twilight Singers and in his own band, Get Busy.
