Farm Aid Set For September 16 in Pittsburgh

by VVN Music

Farm Aid has announced that this year's benefit for the family farmer in the U.S. will be held on September 16 at KeyBank Pavilion in Burgettstown, PA.

The now annual event was first held on September 22, 1985 in Champaign, IL just two months after the groundbreaking Live Aid. Over fifty performers took the stage including Bon Jovi, Carole King, Loretta Lynn, John Fogerty, Foreigner and B.B. King.

With the exception of 1988 and 1991, the event has been held every years since and, in recent years, has always included performances by the four men who make up the Farm Aid Board of Directors, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews.

President and founder Nelson said "Family farm agriculture is the heart of Pennsylvania. What's happening in western Pennsylvania and the region shows us that we can count on family farmers to strengthen our communities and connect people. Whether we live in rural or urban places, food — and music — brings us all together."

The initial lineup of performers for this year's event:
  • Willie Nelson
  • John Mellencamp
  • Neil Young
  • Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds
  • Jack Johnson
  • The Avett Brothers
  • Sheryl Crow
  • Jamey Johnson
  • Blackberry Smoke
  • Valerie June
  • Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real
  • Insects vs Robots
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 23 at 10 AM EDT
