Brandy Hospitalized After Becoming Unconscious on Plane

Singer Brandy (Norwood) was hospitalized early Friday after other passengers on a plane noticed that she was unconscious.

Brandy was flying from Los Angeles to New York on an early morning flight when people around her saw that she had become unresponsive. While she did eventually regain consciousness, the Los Angeles Fire Department and paramedics helped the singer from the plane and took her to a local hospital where she reportedly remains.

Delta Airlines issued a statement, saying "The flight crew of Delta flight 763 from LAX to New York’s JFK International Airport returned to the gate, prior to departure, after a customer fell ill on board. Medical personnel met the flight and transported the customer to a local hospital."

Brandy, 38, started her career at a young age singing background for teen groups. She signed with Atlantic in 1993, when she was 14, and her debut album came out the next year, giving her the first three hits of her career (I Wanna Be Down, Baby and Brokenhearted. Overall, she has had seven top ten hits on the Hot 100 and ten on the R&B singles including the 1998 smash The Boy is Mine with Monica. She starred in her own show, Moesha, from 1996 to 2001.

The following statement was released late Saturday (June 2) afternoon.

Brandy has been released from the hospital and is now at home resting. She had been traveling extensively as part of an ongoing tour and several personal appearances. In recent days sh has taken more than 10 long haul flights including internationally. She was in the studio all night last night until it was time for her to leave for the airport to catch a 5:45 am flight. The stress of all of the traveling and working so incessantly has exhausted her. She will be relaxing for the next few days.
