Michael McDonald to Release His First Album in Almost a Decade in December

by VVN Music

Michael McDonald is preparing his first album in almost a decade and first of original material in seventeen years.

An article in the Los Angeles Times revealed that Wide Open would be released in September and would include a number of originals.

McDonald's last studio album was 2008's Soul Speak, his third in a trilogy of R&B cover albums that also included Motown (2003) and Motown Two (2004). His last album of original music was 2000's Blue Obsession.

Wide Open, which will be his ninth solo studio album since parting with the Doobie Brothers in the early-80's. Guesting include artists like Warren Haynes, Robyn Ford, Marcus Miller and Branford Marsalis.

Michael is a bit concerned about how his new material will go over, saying "I kind of felt like I’d become the guy in the left lane going 40 miles an hour with his blinker stuck on."

Additional information on the album will hopefully be available soon.

McDonald also has a major tour coming up that will see him play over 40 shows between June and November.
