Incubus and Guardians Debut in U.S. Top Ten; Seven Veterans Hit Charts With New Albums

by VVN Music

It was an impressive week for veteran artists as seven new studio albums and collections have hit the charts this week.

Incubus leads the way as their new album, 8, debuts at number 4. Their fifth straight top four release, it is the first that didn't premier at either number 1 or 2. Light Grenades (2006) started at 1 while Morning View (2001), A Crow Left of the Murder... (2004) and If Not Now, When? (2011) all went to number 2.

The second edition of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise hits theater this Friday (May 5) and the soundtrack album, filled with 70's hits along with a couple from the 60's and a new composition, starts at number 8.  The first edition went to the top two years ago, but it was released after the movie and in all formats at once. Volume 2 came out two weeks before the movie release and only via digital download in the first week. The CD was put out this past Friday.

Barry Manilow opens at 12 with This is My Town: Songs of New York. His 29th studio album, it's his ninth in a row to debut in the top fifteen, going back to 2006's The Greatest Songs of the Fifties. In that run, seven of the nine albums made the top ten.

For the first time in her career, a Sheryl Crow studio album did not make the top ten. Be Myself, her ninth studio set, only made it to 22. Her studio album discography:
  • Tuesday Night Music Club (1993 / #3)
  • Sheryl Crow (1996 / #6)
  • The Globe Sessions (1998 / #5)
  • C'mon, C'mon (2002 / #2)
  • Wildflower (2005 / #2)
  • Detours (2008 / #2)
  • 100 Miles From Memphis (2010 / #3)
  • Feels Like Home (2013 / #7)
  • Be Myself (2017 / #22)
The Bee Gees have many hits compilations on the market, most of which continue to sell well. They can add one more to that list with the new Timeless: All-Time Hits which premiers at number 41.

Former Kinks member Ray Davies has a rare hit on the U.S. charts as Americana debuts at 79 giving him his highest charting solo album. Previously, he had charted with Other People's Lives (2006 / #122) and Working Man's Cafe (2008 / #140).

Seven albums by Latin singer Ricardo Arjona have charted with his latest, Circo Soledad, being the one peaking lowest.  His best goes to 2014's Viaje which went to 35.

On the singles chart, Daddy Yankee continues to climb as a featured artist to Luis Fonsi. Despacito moves from 9 to 4 on the Hot 100.
