Watch: The Zombies Release Animated Video For "Care of Cell 44" From "Odessey & Oracle"

by VVN Music

The Zombies classic album Odessey & Oracle was a flop...a really big one...when it was originally released on April 19, 1968 in the U.K. (June in the U.S.). As a matter of fact, the Zombies weren't even together anymore on the day of release.

Then a funny thing happened. Time of the Season started getting airplay and, by March 1969, the single was at number 3 in the U.S.

The current lineup of the Zombies, with original members Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent, have been playing the album, now considered a classic of the rock era, in concert for some time and recently released a book, Odessey: The Zombies in Words and Images.

While Time of the Season was the runaway most popular song on the album, their were many other greats including Care of Cell 44 which led off the album. Giving off a breezy 60's pop sound, the song actually tells a darker story of a person writing to their partner in prison while waiting for their release.

On Tuesday, the Zombies released a video for Care of Cell 44, with artwork created by Viv Boucherat, the wife of group bassist Chris White.
