Herbie Hancock Sets Extensive European & U.S. Tour

by VVN Music

Herbie Hancock is, undoubtedly, one of the greatest living legends of jazz music but he has, on occasion, crossed over and made an impact on the popular music charts.

As far back as 1963, Hancock could be heard on a handful of pop stations with his version of Watermelon Man and, in 1974, he hit the charts with Chameleon (1974 / #42 Pop / #18 R&B). His biggest hit came in 1983 at the height of the MTV revolution with a robot infused video for his track Rockit (1983 / #71 Pop / #6 R&B / #1 Dance).

Hancock also stunned the Grammy Awards in 2008 when he took home the Album of the Year prize for River: The Joni Letters, which payed tribute to Joni Mitchell.

Herbie, 77, is about to set out on one of his most extensive tours in years, starting with 21 dates in Europe followed by thirteen in the U.S.

This is the first time in six years that Hancock has toured with his band of Lionel Loueke (guitar), James Genus (bass), Terrace Martin (multiple instruments) and Vinnie Colaiuta (drums).
