50 Weeks After Its Release, Keith Urban's "Ripcord" Is the Top Selling Album in the U.S. by a Veteran Artist

by VVN Music

Fifty weeks ago, Keith Urban released his latest album, Ripcord.

Since that time, Ripcord has been sitting regularly in the top 100 albums and the top 10 on the Country Albums with little indication of fading. This week, it only drops 23 to 26 and gives Urban the top selling album by a veteran artist for the week. It also remains at number 1 on the Country Albums.

Last week's Bee Gees salute by the Recording Academy certainly boosted the sales of their albums with four hitting the Billboard 200 this week, Number Ones (#57), The Ultimate Bee Gees (#139), the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack (#148) and Bee Gees' Greatest (#160). Plus, a new Bee Gees compilation hit the market on Friday and will impact next week's charts.

Neil Diamond presents a bit of an anomaly on the chart this week with his All-Time Greatest Hits reentering at 87 but his newest compilation, 50th Anniversary Collection, falling off the chart in its third week.

The only debut by a veteran artist goes to the String Cheese Incident at 159 with Believe. Their eleventh studio album, it is their first to make the Billboard 200.

On the singles chart, we have another veteran artist in the top ten after Despacito by Louis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee Featuring Justin Bieber comes in at number 9. This is the highest charting single in the singer's 22 year recording career, outpacing his 2005 hit Rompe which peaked at 24.
