Metallica's Album Sales Jump Over 200% to Move to Number 2 Behind Ed Sheeran

Metallica have had quite a week, but it is mostly because of touring.

The rockers saw their album sales jump over 200% last week to 79,000 copies, but many of those "sales" were due to people redeeming their vouchers that they received from purchasing tickets to the band's Hardwired...to Self Destruct Tour.

Sales + Streaming also jumped for the album by just over 190% with 81,000 total units being attributed to the set. The combination will place the band at number 2 on the upcoming Billboard 200, behind Ed Sheeran's new album, ÷ (Divide) which had sales of 322,000 copies and 451,000 when streaming was added in.

Garth Brooks The Ultimate Collection continues to sell well with its heavily discounted price at Target stores, with sales of the week of around 19,000 according to Hits Daily Double, putting it in the high 20's for the week.

Three veteran country artists also look to stay in the top 50 as Keith Urban's Ripcord has an estimated sales + streaming of almost 14,000, putting it in the high 30's, Alison Krauss' Windy City having 11,500 in sales for a spot in the low 30's and Reba McEntire's Sing It Now...Songs of Faith and Hope is in the low 40's with 10,000.

As another example of just how strongly streaming is changing the charts, Krauss and McEntire would have been at 11 and 12 if just album sales were used.

The final charts will be out on Tuesday.
