Metallica Officially Has Biggest Selling Album of the Week; Jerry Garcia Band Has Biggest Debut by a Veteran Artist

by VVN Music

It was another quiet week on the Billboard 200 for veteran artists as only three new albums debuted in the lower portion of the chart.

The big news, though, is that Metallica's Hardwired...to Self-Destruct is the biggest selling album of the week, moving more units than Ed Sheeran's latest. The huge surge for the metal band is due to the large number of fans who have purchased tickets for the band's tour redeeming their free album.

Once streaming is added in, Sheeran and Metallica change places with Hardwired finishing the week at number 2.

The first debut by a veteran artist goes to Jerry Garcia with the archive release GarciaLive, Volume 8: November 23rd, 1991, Bradley Center. The album starts at 96 and, as happens with most Grateful Dead oriented live albums, will most likely disappear from the Billboard 200 next week.

The second, at 173, is the Elliott Smith expanded version of his 1997 album Either/Or. The album didn't didn't chart when it was originally released.

Finally, Chickenfoot opens at 186 with Best + Live, their combo compilation of tracks from their first two albums along with a disc of live music. The band's first two albums both debuted in the top ten.
