Bell Biv DeVoe Have Highest Charting Album Since Their 1990 Debut

by VVN Music

The BET presentation of the New Edition story two weeks ago has given the group and associated acts a big boost on the charts.

Bell Biv DeVoe, the break off group with Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe, have the highest charting album since their 1990 debut with Three Stripes. The album debuts at 18, one better than their sophomore effort Hootie Mack (1993 / #19) and trailing only Poison (1990 / #5).

The 2000 New Edition greatest hits set, All the Number Ones, hits the Billboard 200 for the first time, debuting at 37 while their 1988 album Heart Break returns to the chart at 85. Heart Break originally peaked at 12.

The second highest debut of the week is another in the Grateful Dead's long series of live archive releases. Dave's Picks, Volume 21: Boston Garden, Boston, MA 4/2/73 opens at 26.

German thrash metal band Kreator have their highest charting album in the U.S. with Gods of Violence which opens at 118. It is their fourteenth studio release and third album to chart in America with their previous best being 2012's Phantom Antichrist (#130).

Finally, at 154, is the latest NOW collection, NOW That's What I Call 90's Pop.

A side note. Last week's top selling album by a veteran artist and the number 5 album overall, AFI's AFI (The Blood Album) fell completely out of the Billboard 200 in its second week of release.

Next week, look for a possible top ten start for the new Reba McEntire gospel set.
